Happy weekend! Thanks to all who have shared my newsletter-Lists with a friend or two, and thanks in advance if you do in the future. It’s been fun to chat with new readers and it’s also been fun to engage in the comment section. Writing something publicly for others to read is strange because I never know if anyone will read it. So thanks for reading and thanks for sharing!
It’s been a week of high activity for me and my increased headaches are proof (sigh) of having too much fun. But the activities were intentional and so very worth it and my activities, I notice as I write this, were very, very quirky. Perhaps you read this today for inspiration or just curiosity, but maybe you can relate to a feeling mentioned or a silly tradition in your life as well.
READ. I finished this book for a book group I attended. I started this book with a friend because we want to talk about this topic together. I placed this book on hold at the library because my friend got upsetting news and asked us all to reread it with her as camaraderie and distraction. A wide variety of books this week made me happy.
UPDATE. Light switch by light switch, door knob by door knob we are slowly updating our house. We dedicated the first year in our house to swapping out many-decades-old light fixtures. Here is the whimsical light now in my children’s bedroom. This year in our house I am swapping out door knobs. Three door knobs down this week!
BEAUTY. This love poem by Nikki Giovanni. So sweet you could read it aloud to the whole family.
PARENT. A one-on-one day. My first grader and I capitalized on a school and work holiday to spend all day together, just us and just for fun. It included 3 bookstores, ice cream, a nap, vintage shoes, and cat videos. I had no control over the line-up: we simply went where the day and my daughter took us. I ended up buying four more books in her forever-favorite book series. Unscheduled time together was a huge win in a month that has felt like a pile-up of parenting fails.
ADVENTURE. Little adventures lately have been without kids and with unexpected delights. Last week, I attended a birthday party dinner complete with a group astrology reading. Never-have-I-ever done this before and it was wildly fun - fun to hear others’ predictions, to laugh so hard, to think in a different way about people and traits. That is, it was all fun until my tarot card was pulled. Yikes! This week, I spent a lunch hour at a sauna in town and was instantly relaxed. Highly recommend both types of quirky adventures to shake up your week and enjoy some extra-ordinary quality time with your people.
CHEAP THRILL. I wore this lipstick with a sequin dress on our Galentine’s Day Glamour Hike. I accessorized with my oversized outdoor hat, wool socks and hiking boots. Surely each of us were a sight to behold on the trail! With a backpack filled with water and chocolate, I embarked up a hill with my pals to sort of hike, but definitely drink champagne, in nature. It was a great celebration of friendship.
How did you spend time this week? Any mini-adventures with friends or partners? A parenting win or fail? A new book started or an excellent one completed? I’d love to hear!
I looooove this list. Hearing the variety and beauty shared from another’s life inspires me to find those things in my own. 🤍
Such a beautiful and thoughtful list. I especially love light in your kids room, I'm sure it adds even more magic to their space and lives. Also that poem by Nikki, is one of my faves by her
