These short, imaginative books have writing that rolls off my tongue and tugs at my heart. I like these lyrical books at age 2, but we have enjoyed them as nostalgic favorites for many years.
All The World by Liz Garton Scanlon, illustrated by Marla Frazee. I have two favorite children’s books of all time and this is one. I find the world imagined beautiful and cannot read it without getting tearful.
“Everything you hear, smell, see
All the world is everything.
Everything is you and me.
Hope and peace and love and trust.
All the world is all of us.”
Plant a Little Seed by Bonnie Christensen. My love for this one is deep.
“We water and weed
and dream and wait
and water and wait some more.”
Everywhere Babies by Susan Meyers, illustrated by Marla Frazee.
“Everyday, everywhere babies are growing-
they can run, they can jump
they can slide, they can swing,
they can dig, they can climb,
they can talk, they can sing.”
Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman. Currently, my 2-year-old’s favorite book.
“An itty-bitty mouse,
pitter-pat, tip-toe,
creep-crawls in the cave
from the fluff-cold snow.”
Little Owl’s Night by Divya Srinivasan.
“The rooster crows. The crow caws.
And the day begins,” said Mama.
Jamberry by Bruce Degen. This one is funny to repeat.
“Raspberry rabbits
Brassberry band
Elephants skating
On raspberry jam”
